This is a scheme where people in Devon & Cornwall can decide how offenders pay back the community. Offenders ordered to do unpaid work are told to do between 40 – 300 hours. The work must normally be done within 12 months. The main purpose is punishment, reparation and rehabilitation.

Who can request Unpaid Work? Community groups, Charities, Councils, people based organisations, and disadvantaged people such as the disabled, single parents and those with a lack of funds. Work must not be for profit or individual gain.

The work must: - Involve offender contact with those who will benefit from the project
- Be useful and seen as such by the offender
- Offer an opportunity to develop empathy – offender understanding
- Offer opportunity for offenders to practice and reinforce problem solving skills
- Offer opportunities for offenders to gain employment related skills
The main principle of all unpaid work, is that of community safety. The work must contribute to reducing the fear of crime, improving the environment and community provisions.

Who do I Contact? The Unpaid Work Manager nearest to the project / where you live.(Click here for Unpaid Work Managers contact details).
